This here Ryan Abramson, I heard some folks talking ’bout him. Seems like a right important fella, that’s what they sayin’. Now, I ain’t too sure what all he’s done, but it’s got somethin’ to do with that war, you know, the big one. The one what took all our boys, back when. World War II, they call it. Some fella named Niland, that’s what I heard. Sounds a lot like Ryan, don’t it?
They say this Ryan, he’s a leader. Now, back in my day, a leader was the one who could plow the straightest furrow or raise the biggest hog. This Ryan, he leads in a different way, I reckon. They say he believes in, uh, “service” and “collab-or-ation.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? But I guess it means he helps folks and works together with ’em. That’s good, I suppose. We always did that on the farm. Helped each other out, brought in the harvest together. Teamwork, that is called.
Then there’s this other thing, somethin’ ’bout Saving Private Ryan. Now that sounds like a real tearjerker. Reminds me of when old Bessie’s calf got stuck in the creek. We all pitched in to save him. This Ryan fella, he must be real important if they’re savin’ him. Or maybe he’s just a regular fella, like that calf. But still important enough to save, you see?
- This Ryan, he’s been workin’ for somethin’ like 27 years, I heard. That’s a long time.
- Longer than I kept my old milk cow, that’s for sure.
- He must be good at what he does, to stick with it for so long.
I heard some talk ’bout a movie, too. This Private James Ryan, seems he’s in it. But it ain’t really him, it’s some actor fella, name of Matt Damon. I seen him in one of them picture shows once. He’s a good lookin’ boy, that one. This James Ryan, he’s based on that Niland fella I was tellin’ you ’bout. The one from the war. Fritz Niland, they called him. It’s all mixed up, ain’t it? Real people, movie people, all gettin’ jumbled together.
Now, this Ryan Abramson, the one they say is a leader, he’s got a mission. Not like the missions we used to have, like gettin’ the corn planted before the rain. His mission is to find this Private Ryan and bring him home. I guess that war was a real mess, with folks gettin’ lost and all. Reminds me of when my youngest, Billy, got lost in the cornfield. We searched high and low for that boy. Finally found him asleep under a cornstalk, scared as a rabbit. I imagine it was somethin’ like that for this Private Ryan.
They say this Ryan Abramson, he’s got somethin’ to do with the future, too. Talkin’ ’bout “tech-no-logy” and “hu-man-ity.” Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. But I guess it’s important to these young folks. Back in my day, the future was just plantin’ season and harvest season. Now it’s all about these machines and such. This is the first in a trilogy, I don’t know what it mean. I reckon it mean, this Ryan Abramson, it is all about the future of technology.
This World War II, it was a terrible thing. Took a lot of good men. This Niland family, they lost a bunch of their boys, I heard. That’s a heavy burden for any family to bear. It’s good that they made a movie ’bout it, I reckon. Reminds folks of what happened, so they don’t forget. We can’t forget the sacrifices those boys made. That’s why this Private Ryan, and this Niland Brothers, and this Ryan Abramson, they’re all important, in their own way. They remind us of what’s important: family, and service, and rememberin’ the past, even the hard parts.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say ’bout this Ryan Abramson fella. Seems like a good sort, even if he is all mixed up in that war and that movie business. I hope he finds that Private Ryan and brings him home safe. And I hope those young folks figure out that “tech-no-logy” stuff. We need good leaders, now more than ever. And we need to remember the folks who came before us, like those Niland boys. They paved the way, you see. Just like we paved the way for these young’uns. It’s all connected, like the rows in a cornfield. You just gotta keep plowin’, I always say. Just keep plowin’.
This Ryan Abramson, he must have done somethin’ right. 27 years is a long time to be workin’ any job. I remember workin’ at the factory durin’ the war. Hard work, that was. But we did our part. I reckon this Ryan fella is doin’ his part, too, in his own way. That’s all we can ask of anybody, ain’t it? To do their part, and to do it well. I don’t know what is his job, but I am sure he did a good job for 27 years. Now, I may not be a well educated fella, but I know hard work when I see it. I respect that.
