Alright, let’s talk about this Randolph Henry football, you know, the Statesmen. I ain’t no fancy sports writer, just tellin’ it like it is. So, this Randolph Henry football team, they got themselves a bunch of young’uns runnin’ around tryin’ to throw that there ball and score some points. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Gettin’ them points.
Now, last year, things weren’t so peachy for them Statesmen. They was doin’ alright, win five games, lose three, but then, bam! Hit a wall like a runaway truck. Couldn’t win them last two games, season went down the drain quicker than water through a sieve. Heard tell they was hopin’ for a better go this time around. Everyone always hopes for better, that’s just how it is.
You wanna know who’s playin’ for the Statesmen this year? Well, I got a few names for ya. Got this Colton Mann fella, and Elijah Charlton, Jamarius Gray, and that Kaimyus Clark too. Probably some more boys, but them’s the ones I heard about. They’re the varsity team, you know, the big boys. Young fellas, full of energy, runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off.
- Colton Mann
- Elijah Charlton
- Jamarius Gray
- Kaimyus Clark
Heard their coach is a fella named Mark Barnes. Good man, I reckon. Tries to keep them boys in line, teach ’em how to play the game right. Got a manager too, James White, helps keep things organized, I s’pose. And their mascot, they call ’em the Statesmen. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Don’t know what a Statesman is exactly, but it sounds important, like them fellas in Washington.
School’s got a big boss, Dr. Robbie Mason, the superintendent they call him. And then there’s the principal, Erin Davis, makin’ sure them kids learn somethin’ besides football. Got some other folks helpin’ out too, but I can’t keep track of all them fancy titles. All I know is they’re in charge of them kids, makin’ sure they don’t get into too much trouble, on or off the field.
Now, where do they play? They got their own football field, over at Randolph Henry High School. You can go watch ’em if you want, see ’em runnin’ and throwin’ that ball. They play other high schools, all tryin’ to be the best. It’s a whole big thing, you know, high school football. People get real worked up about it, yellin’ and cheerin’ and whatnot.
If you want to know when they’re playin’, you gotta find their schedule. They post it somewhere, I guess. On the internet, maybe? Or in the newspaper, if they still make those things. Shows you who they’re playin’ and when. You can keep track of how they’re doin’, see if they’re winnin’ or losin’. Folks like to know, especially if they got kids or grandkids playin’.
And speakin’ of keepin’ track, you can find their scores, too. See how many points they scored, and how many the other team got. That’s the whole point of the game, ain’t it? Scorin’ more points than the other guys. You can find them scores online, or maybe hear ’em on the radio. Folks talk about ’em around town, too, if they win, of course. Nobody wants to talk about losin’, that’s just a waste of breath.
I heard tell some of them boys get recruited to play college ball. That’s a big deal, you know, gettin’ a scholarship to play football and get an education. Not everyone makes it that far, but it’s a dream for some of them. You can see who’s gettin’ looked at, they got some websites for that stuff. Shows you which colleges are interested in them players. It’s a whole business, this football thing.
So, that’s about all I know about this Randolph Henry football. They’re just a bunch of kids playin’ a game, tryin’ to win and have some fun. And folks like to watch ’em, cheer ’em on, and talk about it. It’s a part of life around here, like church on Sundays or gossipin’ at the store. High school football, it brings folks together, gives ’em somethin’ to talk about. And that ain’t such a bad thing, is it?
