Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about that Thanksgiving thing in 2018. It was a Thursday, yeah, that’s right. Thursday, November 22nd, to be exact. Folks always makin’ a big fuss about it, gotta know the date, gotta plan the feast.
Now, I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I heard tell that them Congress fellas, way back when, decided Thanksgiving should be on the fourth Thursday of November. Why? Well, they said it was to help them shopkeepers, give ’em more time to sell their Christmas stuff. Makes sense, I guess, gotta make a livin’, right?
So, 2018, it was the 22nd. That’s pretty early, they say. Earliest it can be, somethin’ like that. Don’t happen too often, see? Heard tell it won’t happen again ’til 2029. That’s a long ways off, ain’t it?
Thanksgiving, it’s all about givin’ thanks, you know? For the food, for the family, for the harvest. We always had a big ol’ turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, the whole shebang. Kids runnin’ around, makin’ a mess, but that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Family and togetherness.
- Turkey – Gotta have a big one!
- Mashed potatoes – Smothered in gravy, of course.
- Stuffing – My secret recipe, passed down for generations.
- Cranberry sauce – The jiggly kind, from a can. Don’t judge!
- Pumpkin pie – Gotta have that sweet finish.
Now, some folks get all worked up about the dates, and how they figure it all out. Leap years and such. Honestly, I don’t pay much mind to it. All I know is, it’s the fourth Thursday in November, and that’s good enough for me. You just gotta count them Thursdays, and there ya go!
They got websites and timers and all sorts of gadgets to tell you the date. But back in my day, we just looked at the calendar. A paper calendar, mind you, not one of them fancy phone things. And we knew when Thanksgiving was comin’. We didn’t need no computer to tell us.
And let me tell you, 2018 was a good year for Thanksgiving. The weather was nice, not too cold, not too warm. The family all came together, and we had a real feast. Lots of laughin’, lots of eatin’, lots of good times. That’s what I remember most.
I heard tell that 2018 was a special year for the date, being so early. Folks made a big deal outta it, I guess. But every Thanksgiving is special to me. It don’t matter if it’s the 22nd or the 28th, it’s the same feeling, the same thankfulness.
So, there you have it. Thanksgiving in 2018 was on November 22nd, a Thursday. And it was a good one. Don’t need to make it more complicated than that. Just gather your loved ones, give thanks, and enjoy the feast. That’s the real meaning of Thanksgiving, ain’t it?
And speaking of holidays in 2018, there were others too, of course. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day… all them holidays. But Thanksgiving, well, it’s always been my favorite. It’s a time to remember all the good things in life, even when things get tough.
So, whether you’re lookin’ up the date on your fancy phone or markin’ it on your paper calendar, remember what’s important. It ain’t just about the turkey and the pie, it’s about the people you share it with. And that’s the truth, plain and simple.
And that’s all I gotta say about Thanksgiving in 2018. It was a good ‘un, and I’m thankful for it. Now, go on and enjoy your own Thanksgiving, whenever it may be.
Just remember to be thankful for all your blessings .
