That Matt Fitzpatrick, he’s a good boy. A real good golfer. But you know, it ain’t just him out there. He’s got that Billy Foster fella carryin’ his bag. That’s his caddie, you see. And let me tell ya, that Billy, he’s been around the block a few times. He’s seen it all, that one. Been on the PGA TOUR for a long long time.
They say he started working with Matt back in, oh, I reckon it was 2018. Five years ago, they say! Five years! Time flies when you’re havin’ fun, eh? And they been doin’ alright together, ain’t they? Won that big ol’ US Open thing, they did. In 2022, wasn’t it? That were a big day for ’em, I bet.
Now, this Billy, he’s gettin’ on a bit, ya know? Not a spring chicken no more. He told some folks he’s gonna take it a bit easier next year. Heard he said that to the Mirror. He’s not going to caddie full time. Workin’ part time, that’s what he said. He ain’t quitting just yet, that Billy Foster caddie, but he’s slowin’ down some. Gonna share the job with some other fella. I don’t know him, but his name is Dan something, Dan Parratt, I think.
They call Billy a “legendary” caddie. He must be good. I heard he even carried Tiger Woods’s bag once! That was years ago, I’m sure. He said this caddie job ain’t easy. But it’s still the biggest and best tournament. He wants to win one more before he kicks the bucket. I heard he made $315,000 last year, that’s a lot of money! He’s one of the richest caddies, I heard. He starts with $135,000, and gets more when Matt wins.
- Matt won that US Open thing.
- Billy got a good chunk of change for that win. $315,000!
- Billy Foster, he’s been doin’ this a long time.
- They say he’s a legend, you know?
That Matt Fitzpatrick caddie, Billy, he’s seen a lot of golf in his day. He’s carried for some big names, I reckon. This job, it ain’t for the faint of heart, mind you. It’s a lot of walkin’, a lot of sun. He’s from Yorkshire, you know. They are tough, those Yorkshire folks.
But winning that US Open, that musta been somethin’. Billy said it wiped away some bad memories. Sounds like he’s had some rough patches. We all do, don’t we? That’s life, innit?
Matt Fitzpatrick, he’s lucky to have a fella like Billy on his bag. A good caddie, they’re worth their weight in gold, they say. They know the courses, they know the game. They keep ya calm, keep ya focused. They ain’t just carryin’ the clubs, they’re carryin’ a lot more than that.
So, next year, you might see Billy out there a bit less. But he’ll still be around. He ain’t givin’ up that easy. And he and Matt, they make a good team. A real good team. They are gonna keep tryin’ to win. That’s what they do.
I reckon it’s important to have someone good on your side, ya know? Someone who knows what they’re doin’. Someone you can trust. Like Matt and that Billy fella. That’s a good partnership, that is. They help each other. They work hard together.
I don’t know much about golf, but I know a thing or two about people. And it seems to me them two, they got somethin’ special. That Billy Foster, Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddie, he’s a good egg, I reckon. He’s gonna keep going as long as he can. And when the time comes, he’ll probably have some good stories to tell about the old days. He’ll probably sit on his porch, and tell his stories about that Matt, and all them tournaments.
It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens. You never know in this life, do ya? Things change. People get older. But some things, some things stay the same. Like the love of the game, I suppose. They probably both like to play, don’t they? Otherwise, they won’t be doing it. I heard Billy talking about it, saying that he might get lucky one day. I hope he does. He deserves it. They both do.
