Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this Lexington, Alabama football. You know, down here, football is a big deal, like real big. It ain’t just a game, it’s like… life, ya know?
Them Lexington Golden Bears, that’s the team ’round here. Heard tell they play at the Lexington High School. Folks get all riled up ’bout them games. They got a schedule and everything, playin’ other schools. I seen it posted up at the store, dates and all. Can’t make heads or tails of it myself, all them numbers and times, but the young’uns, they know. They know when to be there, cheerin’ and hollerin’.
The games, they’re somethin’ else. All them young fellas runnin’ around, throwin’ that ball. Sometimes they catch it, sometimes they don’t. Makes ya jump outta your seat sometimes, it does. And the noise! Lord, the noise! Whistles blowin’, people screamin’, it’s a ruckus, I tell ya. But it’s a fun ruckus, ya know? Gets the blood pumpin’.
- They got a bunch of fellas on the team, what they call a roster. Big fellas, small fellas, all shapes and sizes.
- And they got coaches, too. Them fellas yell a lot, tellin’ the players what to do. Guess they know what they’re doin’, seein’ as they win some games.
- They play on a field, big green field with lines all over it. Don’t ask me what them lines mean, I just watch the boys runnin’ back and forth.
Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you. I just go to watch, see the young’uns play. It’s somethin’ to do, gets ya outta the house. And the food! They sell all sorts of stuff at them games. Hot dogs, popcorn, soda pop. All that stuff the young’uns love. Me, I just like a good ol’ lemonade, somethin’ sweet to sip on while I watch.
They got this thing called livestreams now, too. Fancy word for watchin’ the game on your phone or somethin’. The young’uns are always glued to them things. Me, I like watchin’ it in person, but I guess it’s good for folks who can’t make it to the game. They can still see them Golden Bears play, even if they’re far away.
This Lexington football, it’s been around a long time, I reckon. Folks talk about it like it’s been here forever. Generations of families, all playin’ for the Golden Bears, or cheerin’ them on. It’s somethin’ that brings the whole town together. You see folks at the games you ain’t seen in months, catchin’ up, talkin’ ’bout the game, talkin’ ’bout life.
And they got this other football too, not just the high school stuff. Heard tell there’s a professional team somewhere in Alabama, the Birmingham Stallions they call ‘em. That’s a whole ‘nother level, ya know? Them fellas playin’ on TV and all. But the Lexington Golden Bears, that’s our team. That’s who we root for.
They always talkin’ about scores and schedules, standings and rankings. I don’t pay much mind to that. I just like watchin’ the boys play hard, seein’ them try their best. Win or lose, it don’t matter much to me. It’s the spirit of the game, ya know? Them young fellas out there, givin’ it their all. That’s what I like to see.
So, if you ever find yourself in Lexington, Alabama, during football season, go check out a game. You won’t regret it. It’s a good time, good people, and some good ol’ fashioned football. Just remember to bring your cheerin’ voice, and maybe a blanket, gets a little chilly sometimes.
And they got a nice school there too, where they play, the Lexington High School. Heard it’s a good school, lots of smart young’uns goin’ there. They got a website and all, where you can find all the information about the team. Schedules, news, everything you need to know. But like I said, I ain’t too good with them fancy computers. I just show up and watch the game. That’s good enough for me.
They got the facilities there too, big place. I seen ’em cleanin’ up after the game. A lot of work goes into it, I tell ya. And the staff, they work hard too. Got to keep them young fellas in line, make sure they playin’ fair and square.
