Alright, let’s talk about this Italian Old Fashioned drink. I ain’t no fancy bartender or nothin’, just a regular person who likes a good drink now and then. So, if I can make it, you can too.
First off, what is it? Well, it’s kinda like that regular Old Fashioned, you know, the one with whiskey and sugar and stuff? But this one, it’s got a bit of that Italian somethin’-somethin’ to it. Like, a little bit more zing, I guess you could say. Makes it taste…well, Italian-like.
Now, I heard tell that the most popular drink over in Italy is somethin’ called a Spritz Veneziano. Sounds fancy, huh? But this ain’t that. This here’s stronger, I reckon. More like what a fella would drink after a long day’s work, not some bubbly stuff you sip on a sunny afternoon.
- What you’ll need:
- Some whiskey – not that cheap stuff, get somethin’ decent.
- Sugar – just a little bit, don’t wanna make it too sweet.
- Bitters – Angostura, they call it. Don’t ask me what it is, it just makes the drink taste better.
- A little bit of that orange peel – you know, the outside part.
- Maybe a cherry, if you’re feelin’ fancy.
Okay, so here’s how I make it. First, I take a glass, a short one, not one of them tall skinny ones. Then, I put in a little bit of sugar, just a pinch, maybe two. Then I splash in some of that bitters, maybe two or three shakes, not too much, that stuff’s strong. Then, I take a spoon and mash it all up together. You gotta get that sugar all mixed in with the bitters.
Next, I pour in the whiskey. Like I said, get somethin’ good. Don’t skimp on the good stuff. How much? Well, enough to fill the glass most of the way, but leave a little room at the top. Then, I get a big ice cube, one of them big fellas, and plop it in there. Stir it around a bit, get that whiskey nice and cold.
Now for the fancy part. I take that orange peel and I squeeze it over the glass, so the juice goes in there. Then, I rub the peel all around the rim of the glass. Makes it smell nice, you know? And if I’m feelin’ extra special, I stick a cherry in there too. Makes it look pretty.
That’s it! See? Not so hard. It ain’t rocket science, you know. Anyone can do it! And it tastes mighty fine, if I do say so myself. It’s got that strong whiskey taste, but with a little bit of somethin’ else, somethin’ that makes you wanna take another sip. That Italian somethin’-somethin’, I guess.
Now, some folks might tell you there’s a special way to do this, a special way to that. But I say, just do what tastes good to you. That’s what matters, right? If you like it sweeter, add more sugar. If you like it stronger, add more whiskey. It’s your drink, you make it how you want. Don’t let nobody tell you different.
And you know, this here Italian Old Fashioned, it ain’t just for fancy parties or nothin’. It’s good for any time. After a long day of work, sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the sun go down… you know what I mean? It’s just a good, solid drink. Nothin’ fancy, nothin’ complicated, just good.
So, next time you’re feelin’ like you need a drink, give this Italian Old Fashioned a try. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, more for me, I guess. Cheers!
One last thing, don’t go drinkin’ too many of these now. They sneak up on ya, you know? Whiskey’s strong stuff. So, take it easy, enjoy your drink, and don’t do nothin’ I wouldn’t do… which ain’t sayin’ much, I guess.
