Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Cibolo Steele football thing, you know, the championship and all that. It’s a big deal, like when the crops come in good, but for them young’uns and their pigskin.
First off, they got this state championship, right? It’s like the county fair, but instead of cows and pies, you got fellas runnin’ around with a ball. They say it’s at some fancy stadiums, not like our ol’ field back home. Heck, they talk about places like Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Kroger Field in Lexington, and Chad Richison Stadium in Edmond. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? All them stadiums, must be a sight to see, lights blazin’ brighter than the Fourth of July.
These games, they ain’t just played on any ol’ day. They got ’em bunched up in December, like they gotta get it done afore the real cold sets in. Some games on Thursday, some on Friday and Saturday. They even got ’em on TV, and that internet thing too, somethin’ called NFHS Network. My grandson showed me, looks like magic, them fellas runnin’ on that little screen.
Now, this Cibolo Steele team, they call ’em the Knights. Like them fellas in shinin’ armor, I guess. They had a long season, started when it was hot as blazes, ended near Christmas. Heard tell they played hard, winnin’ some, losin’ some. They even got to the UIL 6A Division 1 state championship, that’s somethin’, ain’t it? They was up against some tough teams, like that North Shore, who beat Austin Westlake, and that Vandegrift team too. Heard they put up a good fight, win or lose.
- Steele played real hard, that’s for sure. Win or lose, them boys gave it their all.
- They had a long season, from August to December. That’s a long time to be runnin’ around like that.
- They played in some big stadiums, fancier than anything I ever seen.
- They even got on TV and that internet thing.
There’s this fella, Dave Campbell, he knows all about Texas football. He keeps folks up to date on what’s happenin’ with the Knights. I reckon he’s like the town crier, but for football. He tells ya everything you need to know.
And the games, they wasn’t always easy. Like that time they was playin’ Vandegrift, they was down by a bit, had the ball, but couldn’t quite make it. Happens to the best of ’em, I reckon. Just like farmin’, sometimes you get a good year, sometimes you don’t.
But the main thing is, these boys, they played their hearts out. They worked hard, practiced, and gave it their all. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter what the score. It’s like plantin’ a field; you put in the work, and sometimes you get a good harvest, sometimes you don’t, but you always try your best.
This whole football thing, it’s more than just a game, ya know? It brings folks together, gives ’em somethin’ to cheer for. It’s like a big ol’ community picnic, but with more yellin’ and less potato salad. And them boys on the field, they learn about teamwork, about tryin’ hard, about gettin’ back up when you fall down. That’s important, no matter what you do in life.
So, whether they won the championship or not, them Cibolo Steele Knights, they done good. They represented their town, their school, and themselves with pride. And that’s somethin’ worth celebratin’.
And that’s all I got to say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got to go check on my chickens.
