Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about this Lampasas football thing, you hear? I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but I can tell ya what I heard and seen, kinda like watchin’ them young’uns chase chickens in the yard, only with a funny shaped ball.
So, this Lampasas, they got themselves a football team, the Badgers they call ’em. Now, Badgers, them’s tough critters, always diggin’ and fightin’. Guess that’s why they picked that name. These boys, they been playin’ this football, knockin’ heads and runnin’ around like their hair’s on fire. I seen some pictures, them boys is big and strong, just like my ol’ mule, Bessie, but faster, much faster.
I hear tell they played a bunch of games. Won some, lost some, just like life, I reckon. They played this team, Pecos, and whooped ’em good, 53 to 14! That’s what I call a whuppin’! Heard they played Wimberley too, and won that one too, 35 to 27. See, them Badgers, they ain’t no pushovers! But then, they lost some too, I think. Heard somethin’ ’bout their season bein’ finished, best one since 2019 they say. Don’t rightly know what that means, but sounds important.
Now, this football, it’s a game with points and scores and all that fancy stuff. They got this thing called a “score,” and that tells ya who’s winnin’. Bigger the number, the better you’re doin’, simple as that. So, when they say “Lampasas football score,” they’re just talkin’ ’bout how many points them Badgers got. Kinda like countin’ eggs in the henhouse, only with more yellin’ and runnin’.

They got this schedule thing too, tells ya when they’re playin’. Like plantin’ season, gotta know when to put them seeds in the ground, these fellas gotta know when to put on their helmets and pads. And they got coaches, them’s the fellas who tell the boys what to do, like the rooster tellin’ the hens where to peck. I guess you can find all that stuff online now, on them computers and such. Me? I just listen to the gossip at the store.
They also got somethin’ called “playoffs.” That’s when the best teams play each other, kinda like the county fair, only ‘stead of blue ribbons, they get a trophy or somethin’. Lampasas, they made it to the playoffs this year, that’s real good . But like I said, their season’s done now. Guess they gotta wait till next year to try again.
This football, it’s a big deal ’round here. Folks get all riled up, cheerin’ and hollerin’. Reminds me of a good ol’ barn raisin’, everybody comin’ together. Only ‘stead of buildin’ a barn, they’re watchin’ them boys run around with that funny shaped ball. It ain’t my cup of tea, all that fuss, but folks seem to like it. And that’s alright by me, long as they don’t trample my garden.
