Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here Brit Floyd thing in Pittsburgh. I ain’t never been one for fancy music, ya know? Them city folks and their loud guitars. But my grandson, he dragged me to this show at the Benedum Center, somethin’ called Brit Floyd, said it was gonna be big.
And let me tell ya, it was big. Not big like a pig, mind you, but big like…well, big like when the whole town gathers for the county fair. Lots of lights, lots of noise. They called it a “tribute band,” which I guess means they play other folks’ music. This Brit Floyd, they play this Pink Floyd band’s stuff. Now, I ain’t never heard of no Pink Floyd, but my grandson said they were a big deal back in the day. Like, Elvis big, I guess.
- Big Lights: Them lights were somethin’ else. All sorts of colors, flashin’ and blinkin’. Reminded me of the fireworks we get on the Fourth of July, only these lights danced around more.
- Loud Music: My ears ain’t what they used to be, but even I could tell this music was loud. But it wasn’t just noise, ya know? It had a beat, somethin’ you could tap your foot to. Even this old lady found herself tappin’ along.
- Lots of People: Goodness gracious, there were people everywhere. Young folks, old folks, folks in between. All packed in there like sardines in a can. Guess this Brit Floyd must be pretty popular.
Now, the music itself…well, it was different. Not like the country songs I listen to on the radio. This was…what’s the word…psychedelic, my grandson called it. Lots of guitars, lots of drums, and sometimes it felt like the music was takin’ you on a ride somewhere. My grandson kept singin’ along to all the songs, knew every word. He said they were playin’ the songs just like the real Pink Floyd did. Note for note, he said. Sounded like a whole lot of work to me.
They had this one song, somethin’ about wishin’ you were here. Made me think of my old man, rest his soul. He woulda liked this show, I think. Maybe not the loud part, but the music…it had a heart to it, ya know? Even though I didn’t understand all the fancy words, I could feel it.
This Brit Floyd, they ain’t just standin’ around playin’ music neither. They got this big screen behind them, showin’ all sorts of pictures and videos. Sometimes it was just colors swirling around, sometimes it was spaceships and stuff. My grandson said it was all part of the experience. Guess it was. It was somethin’ to look at, that’s for sure.
And the folks in Pittsburgh, they sure do love this Brit Floyd. The place was packed, like I said. And everybody was clappin’ and singin’ along. Even me, I clapped a few times. Didn’t want to look like a stick in the mud, ya know?
Benedum Center was a real nice place too. Clean and fancy. Not like the old barn dances we used to have back in my day. But this Brit Floyd, they brought some of that old barn dance energy to the place. People were dancin’ in the aisles, singin’ at the top of their lungs. It was a sight to see, let me tell ya.
They’re doin’ this show again next year, my grandson said. In April, I think. He already got tickets. Said he’s takin’ me again. I don’t know…it was awful loud. But that music, it kinda stuck with me. And seein’ my grandson so happy, well, that’s worth more than all the gold in Fort Knox.
So, if you’re in Pittsburgh and you see somethin’ about Brit Floyd, well, maybe you should check it out. Even if you ain’t a city slicker, even if you don’t know nothin’ about this Pink Floyd, you might just enjoy it. It’s a show, that’s for sure. A big, loud, colorful show. And sometimes, that’s just what a body needs.
They’re callin’ it the “Wish You Were Here tour” next year, and my grandson says it’s gonna be even bigger and better than this year’s show. Hard to imagine, considerin’ how big this one was. But he seems pretty excited, so I guess I’ll go along for the ride. After all, it ain’t every day an old lady like me gets to experience somethin’ like this.
I hear they play all over the place too, not just in Pittsburgh. Johnstown, they said. And some arena, somethin’ about a “Summit.” Sounds fancy. They must be a pretty big deal, this Brit Floyd. Good for them, I say. Workin’ hard and makin’ people happy. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it?
So, there you have it. My take on this Brit Floyd thing. Not bad for an old lady, huh? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go make myself a cup of tea. All that loud music made me tired.
