Alright, let’s talk about that Austin shooting yesterday, you know, the thing everyone’s yapping about. It’s a real mess, a real darn mess. Heard tell six folks got themselves killed, and a bunch more hurt. Can you believe it? Six! That’s more than the fingers on one hand, Lord have mercy.
What Happened in Austin Yesterday?
Well, from what I gather, this fella, they say he was in the army once, went on some kind of rampage. Started down near San Antonio, I think, then came up to Austin. Shot folks, just like that. Bang, bang, you’re gone. Makes your blood run cold, it does.
- They caught the guy, thank goodness. Locked him up tight, I hope.
- Police got involved, of course. Some of them got hurt too, poor souls. One even got killed, I heard. Died doing his job, a brave man, he was.
- Don’t rightly know why he did it. Folks are saying all sorts of things. Maybe he was mad, maybe he was crazy, maybe he just plain mean. Who knows? Some hearts are just rotten, like a bad apple on the ground.
This shooting in Austin, it wasn’t the only one, seems like. Seems like there was another shootout too, somewhere else in Texas. Another officer gone. What is this world coming to? Too much violence, that’s what it is. Too much anger.
Details are still coming out, you know. They always are. Cops are talking, witnesses are talking, everyone’s got a story. Hard to know what’s true and what’s just gossip. But one thing’s for sure: people are dead, families are hurting, and this town’s got a dark cloud hanging over it.
I saw on the TV, they were talking about court documents. Said there were some “horrific details.” Don’t need to hear all that, I don’t. Enough to know good people got hurt for no good reason. Makes you want to hug your grandkids tight, it does.
Austin Police Department did their best, I reckon. They always do. Riskin’ their lives to keep us safe. God bless ‘em for it. But sometimes, even that ain’t enough. Sometimes, bad things just happen, no matter how hard you try to stop them.
This whole thing, it just makes you think. Makes you think about life, about death, about how quickly things can change. One minute you’re laughing, next minute you’re gone. That’s the truth of it, plain and simple.
They say the fella that did the shooting, he shot at the police first. Can you imagine? Shooting at the police! Guess he didn’t care much for his own life, or anybody else’s, for that matter. A wicked soul, that’s what he was. Wicked through and through.
Now they’re gonna have trials, and lawyers, and all that legal mumbo jumbo. Justice will be served, they say. Well, I hope so. I surely do. But nothing can bring back those folks who are gone. Nothing can heal those broken hearts.
Safety in Austin, what about it? Makes you wonder, don’t it? Makes you wonder if you’re safe anywhere anymore. You lock your doors, you say your prayers, but you never really know. This world’s a scary place sometimes. Scarier than a snake in the henhouse.
I heard tell they shot the man, the one who did all the shooting. Killed him dead, they did. Well, maybe that’s for the best. Maybe that’s the only way to stop someone like that. An eye for an eye, the Good Book says. Though, my old heart still aches for all the lives lost, on both sides.
Texas shooting, that’s what they’re calling it on the news. But it ain’t just Texas, is it? It’s everywhere. Seems like every time you turn on the TV, there’s another shooting, another killing, another tragedy. When will it ever end? When will folks learn to live in peace?
This Austin shooting yesterday, it’s a reminder, a sad reminder, that life is precious, and it can be gone in a flash. So hold your loved ones close, tell them you love ‘em, and don’t take a single day for granted. That’s what I say, anyway. That’s all you can do.
