Motorcycle Accident Austin Today: What You Need to Know
Well, I tell you what, motorcycles, they’re fast and fun, but Lord have mercy, they can be dangerous too. Just this morning, I heard on the radio about another motorcycle accident here in Austin. Sounded real bad, they did. Folks need to be careful out there, I say.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but from what I hear, lots of these accidents happen because folks ain’t payin’ attention. You got these youngsters, always in a hurry, speedin’ around like their hair’s on fire. And then you got folks drinkin’ and drivin’, which is just plain stupid if you ask me. Alcohol and motorcycles, that’s a recipe for disaster, sure as eggs is eggs.
- Speedin’: Like I said, these young folks, they think they’re invincible. But let me tell you, a motorcycle ain’t a tank. You go too fast, you lose control, and that’s it. Game over.
- Drinkin’: This one’s a no-brainer. If you’re gonna drink, stay off the road. Get a ride, call a friend, sleep it off, whatever. Just don’t get behind the wheel, or handlebars, I guess, in this case.
- Intersections: These are tricky spots, they are. Cars turnin’ left, motorcycles goin’ straight, it’s a mess. Gotta be extra careful at them intersections, look both ways, twice even.
- Not Seein’ Motorcycles: This is a big one, they say. Cars and trucks, they’re bigger, easier to see. Motorcycles, they’re smaller, harder to spot. Drivers gotta pay attention, look out for them bikes. And motorcycle riders, they gotta make themselves seen, wear bright clothes, use their lights, all that jazz.
I heard on the news just the other day about a fella dyin’ after a motorcycle wreck up in Northwest Austin. Poor soul. And then there was another one, over by Mopac, they said. Rider’s in the hospital, real bad shape. It’s just heartbreaking, it is. Makes you think, you know? Life’s short, gotta be careful.
They say most of the time, it ain’t even the motorcycle rider’s fault. It’s the other drivers, not payin’ attention, not seein’ the bikes. But that don’t make it any easier for the folks who get hurt or the families who lose someone. Accidents happen, I know, but some of them could be avoided, if folks would just slow down and pay attention.
So, if you’re out there on the road, whether you’re drivin’ a car or ridin’ a motorcycle, be careful. Don’t speed, don’t drink and drive, and for heaven’s sake, pay attention to what you’re doin’. It ain’t just your life you’re puttin’ at risk, it’s everybody else’s too. And if you see a motorcycle, give ’em some space, let ’em pass, don’t try to crowd ’em. They got just as much right to be on the road as you do.
I tell you what, every time I hear about one of these accidents, it just makes my stomach churn. It’s sad, real sad. I hope folks start paying more attention. It could save a life, you know? Maybe more than one. It’s just common sense, really, but sometimes common sense ain’t so common these days.
And another thing, wear your helmet! I see these young kids, hair blowin’ in the wind, no helmet. Think they’re cool, I guess. But it ain’t cool to end up in the hospital, or worse. Helmet might not save you every time, but it sure ups your chances. Don’t be a fool, protect your head.
Austin’s a big city, lots of traffic, lots of distractions. Gotta keep your eyes peeled, your wits about you. And remember, it ain’t just about you, it’s about everyone else on the road too. We all gotta look out for each other, that’s what I say.
So, be safe out there, y’all. And remember what I said, pay attention, slow down, and don’t drink and drive. Your life, and other folks’ lives, depend on it. And if you’re on a motorcycle, make sure you’re seen and wear your gear. It’s just plain smart.
