So, I’ve been hearing a lot about Boerne, this little town in Texas, and I got curious. Decided to take a trip there this past weekend, mainly because I heard they had a pretty cool bowling scene. And let me tell you, it was something else.
First thing I did was look up bowling alleys in Boerne. Found out about this place called Boerne Turn Verein. Apparently, it’s been around since 1906, which is nuts! A historic bowling alley? I was sold. It’s a non-profit, too, which I thought was pretty neat.
Got there, and it was like stepping back in time. Super old-school, but in the best way possible. They have these old wooden lanes, and you can just feel the history in the place. I grabbed my bowling ball and shoes, feeling a bit out of place but excited at the same time. It took me a few throws to get adjusted, but once I did, I felt great!

I ended up playing a few games, didn’t break any records, but had a blast. The best part? They said it’s usually members-only, league play, but I lucked out and got in on an open bowling day. Score!
After bowling, I walked around the Historic District a bit. Boerne’s got this charming downtown area along Main Street. Apparently, they established it in 1985 to preserve the history, and you can totally see it. Lots of cute little shops and places to eat. I grabbed a bite at a local diner, nothing fancy, just good, simple food.
A blast from the past
Honestly, the whole experience was a blast from the past. The bowling alley, the town, it all had this old-timey feel that you don’t find much anymore. I even saw some posters for weekend events – Boerne seems like a place where there’s always something going on.
I didn’t get to check out any of the other bowling alleys, like Bowl & Barrel or Bowlero San Antonio, but honestly, Boerne Turn Verein was the highlight. If you’re ever in the area and looking for something a little different, definitely give it a try. You won’t regret it. It was a weekend well spent, and I’m already thinking about when I can go back.
I guess Boerne is not just about bowling, I know that San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are nearby, so maybe I should visit them next time, but bowling was my main purpose this time. It turned out that Boerne is indeed a must-visit town in the Texas Hill Country, and the bowling experience is really unique. Visit and you will see why.
