Well, let me tell you about this here Texas quarter. It ain’t just any old quarter, no sir. It’s special, you see. They made it back in 2004, I reckon. It’s got a picture on it, and it’s all about Texas, that’s for sure.
This here Texas quarter, it’s the 28th one they made in that whole bunch of state quarters. Started making them in ’99, gonna make ’em till 2008. This one, they put it out there in June, on the first day. That’s what them folks said.
You know, they say this here coin, it’s worth somethin’. Some folks say it’s only 25 cents, just like any other quarter. But others, they say it’s worth more. Like, 71 cents, maybe even more, up to three dollars and fifty cents! If it ain’t been used none, that is. If it’s all shiny and new, they call it “uncirculated.”

I heard some folks say that if you find one of these Texas quarters that looks a bit funny, you should show it to somebody who knows about coins. They call them “experts,” I think. But most of these quarters, they ain’t worth more than 25 cents. Just what it says on ’em.
Now, this Texas quarter, it’s got a picture of Texas on it, you know, the shape of the state. And there’s a big old star right in the middle. They call it the “Lone Star State,” you see. That’s what it says on the coin, “The Lone Star State.” And it’s got a rope, like a lasso, around the edge. That’s ’cause of all the cows and cowboys they got in Texas. They say it’s ’cause of the “frontier spirit” too. Whatever that means. They used them ropes, I reckon, to catch them cows back in the day.
I remember back when Texas became a state. It must’ve been a long time ago, 1845 they say. That’s on the Texas quarter, too, the year 1845. I heard my grandpappy talkin’ about it once.
They got two ropes on the sides of the coin. And that outline of Texas. The star, too. They say it’s a special design. They made a whole bunch of them, these Texas quarters. But not as many as some of the other quarters.
So, this Texas quarter, it’s a pretty little thing. It ain’t worth much to some folks, but it’s worth a whole lot more to others. Some people, they collect these things. They like to get one from every state. That’s why they call it the 50 State Quarters Program. They gonna have a quarter for every state, I reckon.

I seen one of them Texas quarters with a “S” on it. They say that one’s special, too. They call it a “proof.” I don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds fancy.
These quarters is made of some kind of metal. I don’t know what kind, but they say it ain’t worth much. It’s the picture and the year that makes it worth somethin’, I reckon. The Texas quarter, the picture is what’s important.

And if you find one that’s a little bit different, you might wanna get it checked out. You might have somethin’ special there. Just don’t go spendin’ it, less you know what it’s worth!
