Alright, alright, let’s talk about these raves in Austin, y’know? I heard some young’uns jabberin’ about it, and well, I got curious. Sounds like a whole lotta noise to me, but hey, to each their own, I always say.
So, what are these raves anyway? From what I gather, they’re big ol’ parties with music, lights, and Lord knows what else. Kids these days, always gotta have somethin’ loud and flashy. I reckon it’s like them old barn dances we used to have, but with more…electricity.
And them fancy lights, like a Christmas tree gone wild.
Now, where do they have these raves in Austin? Seems like they got all sorts of places. Some are in them fancy clubs, like that Elysium place, or that Concourse Project, sounds mighty important, don’t it? Others are in bars, like Barbarella or that White Horse, heard they got good dancin’ there, even without the fancy lights. And some are just, well, wherever they can find a spot, I guess. Like them pop-up things, they call ‘em events, one day they’re here, next day they’re gone, poof!
- Big Clubs: Elysium, The Concourse Project – sounds expensive!
- Bars with Music: Barbarella, The White Horse – maybe a bit more my style, if they played some good country.
- Other Places: Pop-up events, who knows where else – like a traveling circus, but with more thumpin’.
When do these raves happen? Well, it seems like they got ‘em all the time! Weekends mostly, Friday and Saturday nights, when folks ain’t gotta work. But some are during the week too, like that Chappell Roan Dance Party they had on a Friday the 13th, sounds spooky! And then there’s that SXSW thing, that’s a whole nother story. That’s when the whole town goes crazy, music everywhere, day and night. Can’t hardly get a decent night’s sleep then.
Speaking of music, what kind of music they play at these raves? Well, that’s where I get lost. It ain’t like the country music I grew up with, that’s for sure. They got this…electronic music, they call it. Lots of beeps and boops and thumpin’ bass. Some of it’s fast, some of it’s slow, some of it just sounds like noise to me. But the young’uns seem to like it, so I guess it’s got somethin’ goin’ for it. I hear them DJs play it all night and people jump around dancing . Reminds me of my chickens when they get excited, but with less feathers.
And what about the lights? Oh, the lights! They got lasers, strobes, all sorts of flashy things. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it. They got ‘em flashin’ and swirlin’ and changin’ colors, it’s like a fireworks show indoors. I bet them light guys have a good time, makin’ all that fancy stuff happen. They even had a party called the Roosevelt Room’s Roaring 20s NYE Party. That must have had some neat lights, thinking of those fancy 20s dresses.
So, are these raves any good? Well, like I said, it ain’t my cup of tea. Too loud, too flashy, too much…everything. But the kids seem to like it, so I guess it’s alright. It’s their way of lettin’ loose and havin’ fun, just like we had our barn dances and square dances back in the day. Times change, music changes, and ways of havin’ fun change too. As long as they ain’t hurtin’ nobody, I reckon it’s all good. And if you’re lookin’ for a rave in Austin, well, you got plenty of choices. Just follow the thumpin’ bass and the flashin’ lights, you’ll find it.
Heck, they even got somethin’ called Ero Anime Rave, now what in the tarnation is that? Anime? Is that them big-eyed cartoons the kids watch? Sounds like a whole different world to me. But hey, if it makes ‘em happy, who am I to judge? They even have different raves for different times, like “This Weekend” “This Week” “Next Week” “This Month” and “Next Month”. Sounds like they party all the time.
And if you’re lookin’ for a resource to find these things, they got somethin’ called an event calendar. It lists all the music events happenin’ in town, raves and everything else. Sounds mighty handy, if you’re into that sort of thing. They even got websites and apps for findin’ this stuff, but I ain’t got no use for them fancy gadgets. I’ll stick to my newspaper and my radio, thank you very much.
So yeah, that’s what I know about raves in Austin. Not much, I admit, but enough to know it ain’t for me. But if you’re young and full of energy and like loud music and flashy lights, well, go on and have yourself a good time. Just don’t forget to get some sleep sometime, and maybe listen to some good ol’ country music now and then, for your soul.
