Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya somethin’ about this here… what they call it… “Mesquite Skeeters Football”. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just a bunch of young’uns runnin’ around with a pigskin, bless their hearts.
Now, I don’t know much about this “football”, ya hear? Back in my day, we just called it playin’ catch with somethin’ that ain’t a ball. But these kids, they take it real serious. They got their schedules and their scores, and they go at it like a bunch of chickens fightin’ over a bug.
I heard tell they got this thing called “Varsity Football”. Sounds important, like them boys is gonna be president or somethin’. But it’s just a bunch of high school kids, tryin’ to throw that ball further than the other fella. And runnin’, oh Lord, they run like their pants are on fire!
- They got this team, see? Them “Skeeters”. Now, I ain’t never seen a skeeter play football, but I guess them kids are quick like them little buzzers.
- And they got opponents. That means other kids from other places, comin’ to our town, tryin’ to win. It’s like a big ol’ fight, but with rules, I reckon.
- They got dates and times for these games. Like they plannin’ a barn raisin’, but instead of buildin’ somethin’, they tearin’ each other down, in a friendly way, ya know?
I seen on that there… whatchamacallit… the “internet”, they got websites and stuff. Folks writin’ about them Skeeters, talkin’ about their rankings and their rosters. Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me, but I guess it matters to some folks.
This “Mesquite High School”, that’s where them Skeeters hang out. They learn their readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmetic there, and then they go out and play this here football. It’s part of the “Mesquite Independent School District”, whatever that means. Sounds like a whole lotta fuss over a game, if ya ask me.
They got this fella, Dave Campbell. He’s got a “Texas Football” thing goin’ on. Seems like he knows a lot about these Skeeters. He’s got the news and the information. Guess he’s one of them fellas that likes to keep track of all them young’uns runnin’ around.
And they got this “SportsEngine” thing. Says it’s “Sports Relationship Management software”. Now, I ain’t got a clue what that means, but it sounds mighty important. Guess it helps them keep track of all them games and players and whatnots.
So, them Skeeters, they play their games. They win some, they lose some. But they keep on playin’. Just like life, I reckon. You get knocked down, you get back up, and you keep on runnin’. Or, in their case, keep on throwin’ that there pigskin.
Now, I don’t know much about football, like I said. But I know about hard work, and I know about teamwork. And I see them young’uns out there, sweatin’ and strivin’, and I reckon that’s somethin’ to be proud of. Win or lose, they’re givin’ it their all. And that’s all that matters in the end, ain’t it?
So, next time you hear about them Mesquite Skeeters, you remember what I said. It’s just a bunch of kids, playin’ a game. But it’s more than that too. It’s about community, and it’s about spirit. And it’s about learnin’ somethin’ about life, even if it’s just learnin’ how to run like your pants are on fire.
And that, my friends, is all I gotta say about this here “Mesquite Skeeters Football”. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens. They don’t care nothin’ about football, but they sure do love their corn.
Mesquite Skeeters are something, ain’t they? Just kids playing a game, but it brings folks together, makes them yell and holler. Reminds me of a good ol’ fashioned barn raisin’, but with less hammerin’ and more runnin’. They got their schedule all set, playin’ this team and that team. Good for them, keeps them busy and out of trouble, mostly. And all these folks writin’ about them, on that internet thing. Well, I guess folks like to read about what them young’uns are doin’. It’s a whole different world than when I was young, that’s for sure.
