Alright, let’s talk about this… this… baseball bat shelf thing, ya know? My grandkid, he’s got bats all over the place. Trippin’ over ‘em, I am! So, I seen this picture in a magazine, some fancy thing for holdin’ bats. Looks like a shelf, but for bats. Thought, “Well, I can do that, maybe simpler, but same idea.”
First off, you gotta figure out where you gonna put this bat shelf. Near the door? In the garage? Basement maybe? Wherever your boy leaves them dang bats all the time! Measure that spot, ya hear? Don’t want it too big or too small, just right. Like Goldilocks and her porridge, but with bats. Important thing, measure the space. Don’t wanna build something that don’t fit. Waste of good wood, that’d be.
Now, for the wood. You don’t need nothin’ fancy. Go to that big store, the one with all the wood and tools. Get some planks. Not too thin, bats are heavy you know? Get some thick ones. And some nails, long ones. Or screws, if you fancy. Screws are stronger, my son-in-law tells me. He’s a handy fella, always fixin’ things. Sturdy wood is key. Don’t want them bats comin’ down on your head!
- Get wood planks.
- Get long nails or screws.
- Maybe some sandpaper, if you wanna be fancy.
Okay, so you got your wood. Cut it to the size you measured. Remember that? If you ain’t good with saws, get someone to help ya. Don’t want ya losin’ a finger. Then, nail or screw them pieces together. Make a box, like. But leave the front open, so you can put the bats in. And maybe a little lip on the front, so the bats don’t roll out. Simple box shape is good enough. Nothin’ fancy, just gotta hold them bats.
Now, you can just leave it like that, plain wood. But if you wanna make it look nice, you can paint it. Or stain it. Or even cover it with some cloth. My daughter, she likes to paint everything. Says it makes it look “homey”. I don’t know about that, but it can’t hurt, I guess. Painting or staining is optional. Depends on how fancy you wanna be.
Once it’s all done, you gotta hang it up. Find them stud things in the wall. You know, the strong wood behind the drywall. Gotta screw it into them studs, or it’ll fall right down. Use big screws for this, real big. Secure mounting is crucial. Don’t want it crashing down, especially with all them bats on it. And that’s it. You got yourself a baseball bat shelf. Keeps them bats off the floor, and makes things look a little tidier.
This baseball bat shelf thing, it ain’t rocket science, ya know? Just gotta use your head a little. And some wood. And nails. And maybe some help from that son-in-law of mine if things get too tricky. But it’s a good way to keep things organized. And keeps me from trippin’ over them bats all the time! Now that grandkid of mine can find his bats easy. No more excuses for not hittin’ home runs!
Another thing, you could even make little notches in the shelf, to hold each bat separate. Like little cradles for them. That way they don’t bang into each other. Or, if you got a real fancy bat, one of them signed ones, you could make a special spot for it. Maybe even put a little glass case around it, keep it safe. But that’s gettin’ real fancy now. Customization is always an option. Make it your own, that’s what I say.
And don’t forget, you can use this same idea for other things too. Softball bats, hockey sticks, even them fishing poles your husband leaves all over the porch. Just gotta adjust the size and shape a little. Versatile storage solution, that’s what it is. Handy for all sorts of things.
So go on, get yourself some wood and get to work. It’s a good project, keeps ya busy. And it’ll make your house look a little less like a…well, you know… less messy. That’s the goal, ain’t it? A little less mess, a little more order. And no more trippin’ over bats. That’s the best part.
Now I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about bats and shelves is makin’ me hungry!
