Well, let me tell you ‘bout them 1998 Texas Longhorns, ya hear? Them boys, they played some football, that’s for sure. Now, I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I watched them games, and I know what I seen.
That year, they had a new coach, some fella named Mack Brown. First year he was there, and lemme tell ya, he done alright. They won nine games and lost three. That’s pretty darn good, considerin’ the year before, they only won four! Heard tell they weren’t even ranked at the start, but after winnin’ like that, they got themselves noticed.
The Team and the Games
Now, I can’t tell ya every player’s name, goodness knows there’s a whole bunch of ‘em. But they had some real good ones, the starters and the backups too. They played their games at that big stadium in Austin, the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Big place, lots of folks yellin’ and cheerin’. I remember watchin’ them on TV, sometimes with the neighbors, sometimes all by my lonesome.
- They won a lot, that’s for sure. Nine games, like I said.
- They played in somethin’ called the Big 12 Conference. Sounded important.
- They even went to somethin’ called the Cotton Bowl. Big game, I reckon.
They had some fellas who won awards, Heisman Trophy winners they called ‘em. Big deal, I guess. Names like D. Henry, B. Sanders, and R. Williams. Musta been some real talented boys.
Season Stats and Such
Now, I ain’t one for numbers, but I heard tell they had a good record, lots of winnin’ seasons. More wins than losses, that’s for sure. Heard somethin’ about ‘em havin’ like, 108 winnin’ seasons outta 122. That’s a whole lotta winnin’, I tell ya. And they had seasons where they won more than 10 games! Shoot, they even had some seasons where they didn’t lose a single game. Undefeated, they called it.
They kept track of all sorts of things. Who scored, who tackled, all that jazz. Game-by-game stats, they called ‘em. I guess it helps folks keep track of who’s doin’ what. They even had summaries for each game. Musta been a lot of writin’.
Memories and All That
That 1998 season, it was somethin’ special. Folks ‘round here, they talked about them Longhorns all the time. At the store, at church, everywhere you went. They brought a lot of excitement, ya know? Gave folks somethin’ to cheer for.
It’s been a while now, but I still remember them games. The close ones, the blowouts, all of ‘em. They played hard, them boys did. And they made us proud. That’s what matters, I reckon.
In Conclusion
So, that’s my take on the 1998 Texas Longhorns. They were a good team, had a good coach, and they won a lot of games. They made folks happy, and that’s a good thing. Now, I ain’t no sports writer or nothin’, but I know what I seen, and them Longhorns, they were somethin’ else.
More Important Stuff
They played in the NCAA, that’s the big college football thing. And they had a roster, that’s a list of all the players. Starters and reserves, all of ‘em. They even marked the starters with a little star, so ya knew who was who. Smart, I guess.
Anyway, that’s all I got to say about them 1998 Texas Longhorns. A good team, a good year. And that’s all there is to it.
